Tortuguero, Costa Rica
! Tortuguero nationalpark mit boot erreichbar
-There are a couple of trails you can hike but boat tours are pretty much the only way to get around. Admission is $15 USD. Boat tours are $30-45 USD
-Walking und kanutour $20 USD per day (a two-hour tour with a guide costs around $30-40 USD).
-Schildkröten?
-nachttour -This cost us around ~$20 USD per person as we booked it as part of a package with the activities for day two. You don’t need a park pass for your night walk
-nationalparkticket online holen - verbunden Tour und danach selbst
- Tortuguerostrand
-Tortuguero’s wildlife are most active in the morning, and booking an early river wildlife watching tour will maximise your chances of seeing rare
-Costa Rican breakfast of eggs, cheese, bread, and gallo pinto (rice and beans).
-We recommend hiking the 3-kilometre (2 miles) Gavilan Trail, which leads you into the dense jungle.
-Expect to pay about $75-95 USD for a full day guided jungle hike.
-Hike the Jaguar Trail – The main trail in town, the Jaguar Trail is a 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) loop that’s often not a loop – turbulent weather and heavy rains (common in these parts) regularly shut the final portion of the path down. It’s still a fun romp through the coastal woods, starting with a worrying warning sign that lets you know what to do should you encounter a jaguar (not likely, but not impossible).
It starts at the edge of Tortuguero village and along the way, you’ll get visions of the lapping Caribbean waves, palm groves strewn with coconut husks and turtle shells, and all manner of bird life. Don’t be tempted to swim in the beach (or the canals, rivers, or anywhere in Tortuguero for that matter) – currents are rough and fatalities have occurred.

Fahrt
Dauer: 2 Stunden
Preis: 1.965 Colones (= 3,40Euro)
- the first step is to get to the Liberia Municipal Bus Terminal.
-Liberia to Peñas Blanca ($4)
The next step is to get to the border at Peñas Blanca. The trip to Peñas Blanca takes about 2hrs by bus, and buses leave every 30-45 minutes from the Liberia bus terminal.
-Peñas Blanca to Rivas or La Virgin ($4)
From Peñas Blanca, grab one of the many buses heading to Rivas and ask to be let off in La Virgin. You can take a taxi or another bus from La Virgin to San Juan del Sur.
-Rivas or La Virgin to San Juan Del Sur ($3)
To catch the next bus to San Juan Del Sur, cross the street and walk about 50 meters down the road that branches off of the highway. You will come across a nice covered bus stop (see photo below). Wait there for your bus to San Juan del Sur. If you don’t want to get off in La Virgin, you can go all the way to Rivas and switch to the San Juan Del Sur bus.
Wichtig:

When going from Santa Ana to El Tunco your best option is to route through San Salvador. First, in Santa Ana, you need to go to the Metrocentro and take a Red TUDO bus heading to San Salvador (a/c and a gory movie!). We can’t remember the price but it’s about $1.50 and takes about 1hr since it only makes 1 stop along the way.
As the driver to let you off at the Estación Ceiba de Guadalupe. This is basically a spot on the highway where almost all buses leaving the Terminal de Occidente will pass. Get off of the bus and cross the highway on the overhead walkway and on the other side wait for the 102A microbus going to Sunzal. (passing La Libertad and El Tunco along the way). This bus should pass every 20 minutes or so and if you’re scared you won’t see it, just tell a local that you are looking for it and they will help watch with you

(50 min nach San Salvador alle 10 min
1,30 nach Sosonate alle 20 min)
Geht auch direkt nach sosonate 3h 2 mal täglich
1h nach juayua 2 mal täglich
Head to the highway to grab the 287 bus at either 6am or 1:45pm. The 287 heads directly to Sonsonate twice per day. These times are when it leaves La Libertad and so it will pass the highway in front of El Tunco ~15-30mins after. Be aware that sometimes buses leave early in El Salvador and therefore if you are planning on grabbing the 6am bus it could arrive in front of La Libertad not too much past that.
(If you are headed to Santa Ana, you can change to bus 216 in Sonsonate which will take you to the Terminal de Buses Francisco Lara Pineda when you arrive in Santa Ana.)
If you are heading to Juayúa or Ataco you can change buses in Sonsonate for the 249 which goes to Ahuachapán. This bus will pass Juayúa first and then Ataco along the way – aprox 20-30mins after you leave Sonsonate.

Zona Hotelera is great for partying and treating yoursel
Zona Hotelera
This is where you go if you want to be surrounded by some of the finest people the world has ever seen. When people come to Tulum to party, this area is what they imagine, and where they’ll flock to.
I Scream Bar – For my fellow backpackers, this might be your best option. This is where you’ll find the most normal crowd of people in the Zona Hotelera. People are just here to dance and have fun. You can’t miss it. The party literally spills out onto the streets. It’s hard not to want to join in when you walk past.
Rosa Negra – This place is more of a restaurant, but it is one hell of a fun experience. It is the liveliest dinner you’ll have, and it inevitably evolves into a club towards the end of the night.
Taboo – Taboo is part of the classic Tulum experience. Everyone who comes to Tulum to party will inevitably end up at Taboo at some point. It’s right along the beach in the Zona Hotelera and usually boasts one of the liveliest parties going. While the rest of the Zona Hotelera is more of a chill vibe, usually with house music and light swaying, Taboo gets the party going with upbeat hip-hop, pop, and more.
Papaya Playa Project – Papaya Playa is the place to be. If you want to show out, ball out, and go all out on a fun time, Papaya Playa is your weekend hangout for sure.
Tulum Town
I personally enjoyed partying more in Tulum Town. The crowd usually makes the party for me, and I found the people partying here to be much more down to earth and fun. Partying in Zona Hotelera often felt like people were there to show off and create content than to actually have fun. You’ll find some of those people in Tulum town, too, but definitely nowhere near as many. The parties in town are more low key, but there are a few bars and clubs

Minivans to Minca leave from the Cootransminca Station on Carrera 9 in the Mercado Público de Santa Marta. Tickets cost 9,000 COP each way from the desk inside the station. Alternatively, you can grab a minivan from an agency on the corner of Avenida El Libertador and Carrera 43. I paid the same price as the Cootransminca bus when I used it, although it seemed a bit less trustworthy. For mapped locations of each station, you can check below in my ‘Transport Around Santa Marta’ section.

Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona, Colombia
Santa Marta inkl. Tayrona Nationalpark für 3 Tage
There are four entrances into Parque Tayrona, and we recommend using the principal El Zaíno entrance or the Calabazo entrance:
El Zaíno (by road)
Calabazo (by road)
Cabo San Juan (by speedboat)
Palangana (road and boat)
The park’s opening hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, but last entry is at 4:00 pm at el Zaíno entrance and 2:00 pm at the Calabazo entrance.
Entrance Fee | Entry into the park as of 2024 is 87,000 COP for the high season and 73,000 COP for the low season. Keep an eye on this though as the price has been rising yearly as tourism grows.
Where To Enter | The main two entrances for Tayrona are the El Zaino entrance and the Calabazo entrance. El Zaino is the main entrance and is closest to the majority of beaches, while the Calabazo entrance is often used for those spending their first night at Playa Brava. Alternatively, you can enter by boat to Playa Del Cabo.

Provenza is the "party area" of Poblado which is known for its nightlife, but it's not the best place for a low-key stay. Manila is the hip and slightly less chaotic good for food) section of Poblado with great restuarants and cates.
A personal favorite area of mine that flies under the radar is Astorga. It's close enough to walk to the happening spots in Manila, but much quieter.

Walk around the Botanical Gardens.
Surprising large and filled with massive
iguanas. It makes for a peaceful afternoon and a great place for a picnic.

Minorista market - Medellin's huge fruit and produce market. Do not walk here - take a taxi.
Climb Cerro Tutelar Las Tres Cruces (Hill of the three crosses) for an amazing view of the city. I would take a taxi there and some cash in order to buy a snack from the vendors.
park called la Culebra nearby where you can do kayaking, water slides etc - if you still have energy after climbing El Peñol.
Ciclovía - on Sundays between 7-1 pm the entire Avenida Poblado Is closed to traffic, creating a thoroughfare for runners, cyclists, walkers. A great way to get some exercise and see the city.
Bring cash for snacks from vendors.
3. Parque arvi - beautiful, very large eco park with an intriguing entrance. You take a cable car (gondola) up over a neighborhood and to the mountain-top. There is a market at the top and some trails to hike. It's home to tons of hiking trails, waterfalls, and even an archeological site.
If you're visiting on the weekend you'll be lucky enough to explore Mercado Arví. This small farmers market is a great place to shop or enjoy a locally made meal.
Salón Málaga.

If you just want to explore, take a trip to Primer Parque de Laureles and then walk to Second Laureles Park.
Along the way, explore cafes, take in the sites and do some people-watching. If you're hungry, head to Olivia Pizzería Laureles for the best pizza in the area.
You have to check the Parque Lleras, a bright square surrounded by all kinds of restaurants and bars where you can go for a drink, listen to live music (mostly salsa and vallenato), and go dancing all night long.
was Son Habana. Live salsa music is perfect to get in the mood to learn. Even if you are inexperienced in salsa dancing, the moves will eventually come to you once the rhythm gets in your body.
For a crash course, you can take a class on both salsa and bachata (another Caribbean rhythm that's very catchy!). It's USD$20 per person, and in 1 hour, you will start to feel how your hips loosen up.

To get to the Tatacoa Desert, you’ll need to travel to Neiva first before heading on to Villavieja. The cheapest, most environmentally friendly, but longest way to get to these locations is by bus and colectivos. Alternatively, you can also fly from Bogota or Medellin to neiva.
There are frequent buses from Terminal del Sur in Bogota to Neiva’s bus terminal. The journey takes between 5 to 6 hours. You can book your bus ride online with Busbud or at the bus station in person.
Once you’re in Neiva, you can take a colectivo bus leaving from the bus terminal to Villavieja. You might need to wait around for a bit until the colectivo gets enough passengers. The journey takes about an hour.
If you’ve just explored Cali, the Salsa Capital of the World, then you can also get to Neiva and Villavieja from there. There are a few buses leaving either in the morning or in the evening to Neiva from Cali’s main bus terminal.
The journey takes about 9 hours, so we recommend taking an overnight bus if you want to save on a night’s accommodation. You can book your bus ride online with Busbud or at the bus station in person.
In Neiva just get on a colectivo bus towards Villavieja, which should take about an hour.
