1. Explore the Grand Canal (4:30 PM - 5:00 PM)
Travel Tip: As soon as you arrive, you can take a vaporetto (water bus) from the Santa Lucia train station along the Grand Canal. This offers a scenic way to take in the essence of Venice.
What to See: Marvel at iconic Venetian buildings, such as the Ca' d'Oro and the Rialto Bridge, and enjoy the unique sights of Venetian life along the water.
2. Rialto Bridge and Market (5:00 PM - 5:30 PM)
Rialto Bridge is one of Venice’s most famous landmarks, offering a great view of the Grand Canal. Cross the bridge and explore the Rialto Market, a bustling spot filled with vendors selling fresh seafood, vegetables, and local goods. The market may start closing around this time, but the area still buzzes with activity.
3. St. Mark’s Square and Basilica (5:45 PM - 7:00 PM)
Head to Piazza San Marco. It's a must-see spot, and while it might be getting dark, the square is magical in the evening with its historic buildings lit up.
St. Mark’s Basilica: Even if you don’t have time to go inside, the exterior is stunning.
Doge's Palace and Campanile (St. Mark’s bell tower) are nearby and worth admiring from the outside.
4. Walk Around San Marco or Grab a Bite (7:00 PM - 8:30 PM)
Leisurely Stroll: Wander through the narrow streets of San Marco or Dorsoduro, crossing small bridges and discovering charming little piazzas and canals.
Dining Option: Stop for a quick meal at a local bacaro (Venetian wine bar). You can enjoy cicchetti (Venetian tapas) and a glass of wine or a spritz (popular Venetian cocktail).
5. Return to Santa Lucia Station (8:30 PM - 9:00 PM)
Make sure you give yourself enough time to return to Venice Santa Lucia station to catch your 9:30 PM train. Depending on where you are, either walk or hop on another vaporetto to get back.
