Allow ~45 mins. The impressive central prang is the main feature, and there’s a crypt beneath it. 1:20–1:25 Very short cycle to the next temple. 1:25–2:15 Wat Mahathat — allow ~50 mins. This is where you’ll find the famous Buddha head entwined in tree roots. 2:15–2:30 Gentle cycle through the Historical Park. 2:30–3:30 Wat Phra Si Sanphet — the former royal temple. The three large chedis are the highlight. Official local tourism information currently lists it as open until 18:00. 3:30–4:00 Cold drink / coffee / ice cream and a rest. No need to squeeze in another temple. 4:00–4:15 Cycle back to Baan Kong, return the bicycles and freshen up briefly. ~4:20 Tuk-tuk to Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Ask Baan Kong to arrange it and ideally have the driver wait for you. ~4:40–5:45 Wat Chaiwatthanaram in the late-afternoon light. Current sources disagree on closing time—some say 18:00–18:30 while Tripadvisor lists 17:00—so ask Baan Kong to confirm the current closing time that day and leave earlier if necessary.
